You’re Not Doing This Alone
Encouragement and tools to help you lead with love and confidence.
As a mentoring team, we are here to support you. We provide resources, guidance, and encouragement to help you feel confident as you walk alongside your mentee.
That said, the Holy Spirit is always your primary source of wisdom and direction.
Trust Him to lead your conversations, your prayers, and your next steps.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth.” (John 16:13)

The First Meeting: Setting a Healthy Foundation
The first meeting sets the tone for your mentoring relationship. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be honest, prayerful, and clear.
Talk Through Expectations Together
Take time to ask your mentee what she’s hoping for in this season.
You might talk about:
How often you’ll meet
How long each meeting will last
Where you’ll meet (in person or virtual)
Whether she’d like to follow a study, read Scripture together, or simply talk and pray
Clear expectations help both of you feel comfortable and supported from the start.
Set Gentle, Healthy Boundaries
Boundaries are not walls — they create safety and consistency.
Be clear about:
Meeting locations
Time frames
Communication expectations between meetings
This helps protect both your time and your relationship.
Release the Pressure to “Fix”
As a mentor, you are not called to solve every problem or have all the answers.
Your role is to:
Listen well
Encourage faithfully
Point her back to Scripture
Pray consistently
It’s okay, and healthy, to trust God with the outcome.
You are not responsible for someone else’s growth.
God is.
Your faithfulness, presence, and prayers matter more than perfect words ever could.
Prayer Prompts for Mentors
When you’re not sure what to do next, bring these questions to God:
Who are You asking me to invest in?
What does this person need to grow spiritually?
What might be holding them back?
What Scripture should we explore together?
Is there a simple goal we should set?
God is faithful to guide you, step by step.
Practical Mentoring Ideas
Mentoring doesn’t have to feel formal. Some of the most meaningful moments happen in everyday life.
Here are a few simple ways to connect:
Pray for your mentee regularly
Read the Bible together
Pray together
Invite them into normal life (coffee, a walk, exercise, dinner)
Welcome them into your home
Go to a movie, play, or local event together
Write a note or card of encouragement
Drop off a small surprise gift
Have fun and enjoy the relationship!
Creating a Safe and Trusting Relationship
Trust is essential in mentoring. Conversations with your mentee should always remain confidential. Confidentiality builds safety, openness, and deeper connection.
Be willing to go first in vulnerability. Sharing your own struggles and growth creates space for your mentee to do the same.
Sharing Your Story
God has given you:
A new life
A new story
His Holy Spirit
Your story, how God has worked in your life and how He is working now, is a gift meant to be shared.
“God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.” (Romans 5:5)
Speak from the heart. Relax. Trust that the Holy Spirit will give you the words, even when you don’t know what to say.
You are equipped. You are called. And you are not alone.
